CBD for stress relief, anxiety and depression.

Neuroscientific research of recent years have shown that CBD has a very strong neuro-protective functions which in effect can lead to the use CBD as a treatment for many mental disabilities like anxiety and depression.

Scientific studies on CBD are ongoing, but the proof is already there. According to a study published in the journal of Neuropsychopharmacology back in 2011, CBD helped to reduce social anxiety disorder in patients who were prescribed the plant extract in oil form.

Half were provided with a placebo and the others with a dose of CBD. The results revealed how the patients who were treated with cannabis experienced a major reduction in anxiety levels.

When it comes to treating pain with CBD, the results are equally as impressive. A review of clinical data on the side effects of the cannabis compound showed how CBD worked well to reduce pain and joint swelling.

CBD impacts serotonin levels.

“The fast onset of antidepressant action of CBD and the simultaneous anxiolytic (anti-anxiety) effect would solve some of the main limitations of current antidepressant therapies.”

CBD exerts several actions in the brain that explain why it could be effective in treating anxiety. Before we dive in, it’s important to note that most research describing how CBD works is preclinical and based on animal studies. As the saying goes, “mice are not men” — and, results from animal studies don’t always neatly transfer to human therapies.

However, preclinical studies provide insights that move us in the right direction:

5-HT1A agonist: 5-HT1A is a subtype of the serotonin receptor, which is important because anxiety and depression can sometimes be treated with medications that target the serotonin system. This is why drug companies developed selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) like Prozac and Zoloft. SSRIs work by blocking reabsorption of serotonin in the brain, which increases availability of serotonin in the synaptic space. This helps brain cells transmit more serotonin signals, which can reduce anxiety and boost mood in certain cases (although the full biological basis for this is more complicated and not fully understood).

Similar to SSRIs, CBD may boost signaling through serotonin receptors. In an animal study, Spanish researchers found that CBD enhances 5-HT1A transmission and may affect serotonin faster than SSRIs.

CBD or cannabidiol is a non-psychoactive hemp-based oil, that is legal, and won’t get your high.

CBD oil is high in CBD and low (or non existing) in THC. Because CBD drops do not contain high levels of THC, you will not experience psychoactive effects. CBD is safe and effective and also has other various health benefits.

Where CBD oil and traditional Marijuana differ is in the parts of the cannabis plant they come from and what chemical elements make them up. Cannabinoids like THC act as a suppressor for the chemical receptors in the brain. These chemical receptors are already acting abnormally when you have anxiety and depression, and therefore suppressing or stabilizing these receptors with cannabis use can really have a profound impact on those suffering from those afflictions. How these suppressors cause people to react can be very different, however, and can in some people worsen the effects of their anxiety or depression. This is most often not the case with the best CBD oil for anxiety and depression.

Scientific research studies.

The 2010 study found that cannabidiol diminished social anxiety symptoms in people with social anxiety disorder. This research also found that cannabidiol altered the way participants responded to anxiety, which may be due to changes in blood flow in regions of the brain associated with feelings of anxiety.

Further research has also concluded that cannabidiol is effective in treating anxiety – this may be why CBD oil is popular with anxiety sufferers. A 2014 study revealed that CBD oil possessed anti-anxiety and anti-depressant effects (in an animal model).

A case study published in 2016 investigated whether cannabidiol could diminish post-traumatic stress disorder symptoms and anxiety provoked sleep disorder in a child patient with a background of trauma. The researchers discovered that cannabidiol helped to reduce anxiety in the child, as well as helping to improve sleep.

How much CBD to take varies from person to person. It takes time and patience to find the right dosage. Many people struggle to determine the correct dosage because there are no official, federal guidelines in place yet.Available information, taken from sources which range from personal experiences posted on social media, to dosages used in the published studies, one can estimate the parameters.

On average, it seems that effective CBD dosages fall within the 40 mg to 600 mg range. Before you dose at the higher end of the spectrum, remember that everyone’s needs are different. We recommend following the following guidelines to help you determine how to use CBD oil for anxiety suitable to your body and needs.
